New Era Begins for The Copyright Law Journal

As many of you know, our friend and colleague Neil Boorstyn passed away in March. Neil, a legend of the copyright bar, was the founder and sole author of The Copyright Law Journal since 1984. Read more about Neil here.

OWE is very pleased to be able to carry on Neil’s legacy and since the March/April issue has been publishing The Copyright Law Journal under the new authorship of Linda Joy Kattwinkel, Neil’s student, mentee and colleague.

Linda Joy is uniquely qualified to assume this role. She has been a visual artist for over 50 years, and an attorney and mediator for the arts community for over 25 years. She received her law degree cum laude from Hastings College of the Law in 1991, where she studied copyright law with Neil. After serving for three years as law clerk to federal judge Claudia Wilken, Northern District of California, she joined Owen, Wickersham & Erickson in 1995, where she is now Of Counsel. Her practice focuses on all aspects of copyright law, as well as trademark, arts law and publicity/privacy rights. Notable clients include Sanrio (Hello Kitty), Sierra Club, San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART), and graphic designers Craig Frazier and Michael Schwab.

The Copyright Law Journal brings you in-depth analysis of recent important cases in copyright law. In each issue, several cases are discussed, analyzed, and placed into perspective with decisions by other courts. Unlike the brief synopses offered by other services, each case study in The Copyright Law Journal provides a detailed statement of facts, detailed explanation of the court’s opinion, and extensive comments comprising valuable insights and Practice Tips. For those of you who don’t yet subscribe, we encourage you to take a look at the publication now and consider coming on board. Subscription information is available here.
