Kattwinkel Portrait Awarded Second Place in National “See My Color” Exhibition

OW&E’s Linda Joy Kattwinkel is a visual artist as well as an attorney.  One of Linda Joy’s recent works, “Two As One,” has been selected by the juror as second place prize winner in the national “See My Color” virtual exhibition with the Women’s Caucus for Art.

Linda Joy explains: “This portrait celebrates the nearly 30-year friendship across the racial divide between my friend, Doreen, a Black woman (right side) and myself, a white woman (in the shadows on the left side). While we face racism together, she is the primary portrait because she is the primary target of racism. Together we stare at the viewer, challenging the viewer to engage with our determination to confront racism.”

According to the organization’s announcement:  “The Women’s Caucus for Art of Greater Washington, DC invited members of the National Women’s Caucus for Art to submit artwork for a juried online exhibition entitled ‘See My Color,’ WCADC’s Social Justice Art Exhibition. ‘See My Color’ will explores artists’ relationships with racial injustice, police brutality, and criminal justice reform through visual art. The show aims to confront the current social injustices surrounding the deaths of people of color in the United States by law enforcement, as well as systemic racism as a whole. ‘I don’t see color’ is not an acceptable response.”
