OW&E’s Owen Hosts INTA Roundtable: Searching for an Answer – Considerations for Trademark Searching and Clearance

The International Trademark Association (“INTA”) will be staging a series of roundtable conversations around the country this month and OW&E’s Greg Owen will be hosting the San Francisco lunchtime program at Golden Gate University School of Law on September 19, 2019 from 12noon to 2pm.

INTA describes the discussion this way:  Decades ago, trademark practitioners frequently filed applications without conducting significant clearance. Often the primary resource was a service that would conduct a manual search of the physical files of registration certificates at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Many were resigned to letting the USPTO conduct the primary search as part of the examination of the application.  The first online databases became available in the late 1980s, and the resources have exploded since then. How do you determine when a search is needed? How do you develop a strategy for clearing a mark? Join us at roundtables in cities across the United States to join in on the discussion!
